self portrait (ADD series)Why didn't anybody tell me before about the smudged lipstick by

Still thinking about a title for this painting…Something in the lines of “Why didn’t anybody tell me before about the smudged lipstick”.
This is a more personal subject matter because I wanted to make a series that would explore situations that I link to add but could be in general situations that makes you feel not completely adequate :-)
Anyway this is a watercolor and mixed media (india ink and acrylic) on paper. Arches hot press 140 lb). :I did the portrait using my layering technique and did post a demo on my blog

Step by step watercolor and mixed media painting tutorial on ARTiful, painting demos art blog:

I grew up in France but have been living in Canada for the last 12 years, I am currently located in North Vancouver and work from a studio on Pemberton Avenue.

I have two passions:
- Painting the effects of light with watercolor on paper through portraits and cityscapes
( http://www.watercolorpainting.ca/ and http://www.yupopaperpainting.com/ )
- Building complex textures and edges with acrylics and mixed media on canvas (http://www.mixed-media-paintings.com)

How lovely Sandrine, love the bit of an outline around the face. It works very successfully on this one.

  • Thanks Jim!

very interesting! What’s up with the smudged….lipstick?

  • well , remember that time you were talking to a bunch of people in a party and then you go to the washrooms to realize you had lipstick smudged on your face, or you were smiling to the cashier and realized home you had blueberry seeds from your shake all over your teeth :-)

Haha! I remember the blueberry seeds…vividly :D Not so much the lipstick – as I hardly ever wear it. I hope you keep up with this series, it is a wonderful idea. And your expression in this painting is priceless.

  • Thanks, my husband thinks I look like a lunatic on this painting :-)
