In summer 2009 I travelled with my family to the formerly Danish Islands in “Dansk Vestindien”: St. Thomas and St. Croix, now USVI (Virgin Islands), in the Caribbean.
This Kapok tree I found in a Botanic Garden in St. Croix. They also had the berries used for making the famous perfume Chanel No 5 and a lot of other interesting things.
These Kapok trees are so fascinating. I once saw another one in a Botanic garden in Singapore, and that one was totally different in color and shape.
I did this painting on March 8, and suddenly I realized what day it was.
