My family loves travelling to China; it’s such a fascinating country.
This is one of 3 Chinese inspired paintings I did, because one of my daughters asked me to do a series of Chinese paintings for her. The two others are the Shanghai House and Shanghai Bonsai, both from the beautiful Yan Garden.
I must admit that I have not actually seen any dragon, but I have always loved fairy tales and I did also make up goodnight stories with dragons and other creatures for my girls when they were kids.
The Chinese Dragon has 5 talons and no wings. You can actually feel the scales when you touch the dragon on this painting. I used a carved dragon as model for this painting, and added a long tail.
I made the background dream-like, a mix between water and land, because this is where the dragon lives ….
