Fading Like a Flower
My first encaustic painting that I incorporated images of flowers that I waxed onto the surface and then waxed real flowers on top. The wax was yellow in color and the real flowers are extending 3D away from the surface. I then wrapped the whole piece in waxed fabric which you can’t see. Another fun piece which looks like the flowers are fading into the wax hence the song.
Jan Yates of Grimsby, Ontario, Canada was my teacher for the day and a wonderful artist. Please check out her art.

This must have been hard, but it’s interesting and the result is unique. Will the flowers stay preserved? I think this is a great one for layered with texture, and I see you have entered it there:-)
Susan Kimball replied
not hard just a bit overwhelming in the beginning til I got the hang of it. I think the flowers will stay preserved…time will tell. Thanks Leslie!

Tezz
This is so pretty and delicate Susan and a clever way of using wax…..such imagination…....
As long as the petals are completely covered in wax, and no oxygen can get to them, they will last a very long time indeed…...(if you see oxidation occuring, just put some wax over that part and the seal should prevent further damage)
Susan Kimball replied
Thank you Tezz, for your wonderful comment and great tip! : )
