Your post edited #2 IS the BEST…..keep both but I DO this #2 works for me.

  • Sande Elkins replied

Thank you so much for your help, George! I just put them together, one over the other, to post again to that forum and seeing them like that, I have to say I agree. I think the changes give the image a lot more impact. So, I’m off to change the calendar:-)

I belive I like this one better..the other one looked fine to me especially when viewed larger….the lightingin on this one seems to have a better morning lights warm tone to it

  • Sande Elkins replied

Thanks, Gary! I really appreciate your thoughts on this. I tend to lean toward dramatic, strong contrasts and shadowed images but I think their suggestions were right on the money. I just can’t see it sometimes but I agree with you, I think this one is much better because of the warmth and brightness. I’ve changed the calendar and emailed copies of both to all the owners because I can’t tell most of these horses apart when I can see detail..lol

I love it….. to me, the horse is a subject of interest, but the main focus, both of me as an observer, and of the subject, is that amazing light!!!!

  • Sande Elkins replied

Thank you so much Wendy! I really appreciate your input and I think the light was what was distracting me from seeing the problem that others pointed out to me. I’ve always had a tendency to fall in love with parts of a work of art or photograph and sometimes tend to neglect the rest of it. I confess, I fell in love with that light that morning…it really did take my breath away and was so beautiful in person that it was one of those days you are just glad to be alive and to have eyes. I may never see another morning like that.Again, thanks for your help and for your kind words:-)

Hi, Sande— I think I would vote for #2, as it allows the hind legs to be seen more clearly, as well as the ground in that area. Is this your horse, by any chance? It certainly is a beautiful scene!

  • Sande Elkins replied

Thank you for your input!:) I agree but don’t understand why I couldn’t see it before..lol. No, this horse is not mine but belongs to someone at a barn where I’ve been hired to shoot their horses. My horses are usually my chief models but I haven’t had as much time to photograph them lately. Again, thank you for your help:)

Hi, It’s a lovely atmospheric photo, I do prefer the 2nd one as I like the golden glow and the ‘space’ the horse is walking into.

  • Sande Elkins replied

Thanks, Rosie! I agree, I just didn’t realize that I could pull that much more detail and clarity out of the shot…and I tend to fall in love with parts of my photos..like the light here…and pay little attention to the rest. It’s a bad habit but the reason I appreciate constructive criticism especially when it helps me to improve:-) I do appreciate your input~again, thank you! ~Sande

This is a beautiful photo with lovely composition. I prefer the second version – it is clearer and the light is warmer. I like the way the sun is shining on the horse’s rump.

  • Sande Elkins replied

Thank you so much, Jenny!...it’s my photo and I didn’t notice the light on the rump until you pointed it out..thank you!
