Below is what I wrote for a short video clip I took of this dog, named “Gucci”. I’ll post the clip here as well. :(
In 11 years of going into shelters and seeing dogs, I have never seen a dog more petrified than this. He is literally too afraid to move his head and even his eyes. His leg was bent funny and he was too terrified even to move it. He’s been named Gucci and he doesn’t have a chance in this shelter, and not only will h…e go down, he’ll probably be gassed because of the risk of handling. I have asked for a hold to be put on him but the shelter is more overwhelmed than any I’ve ever been in. Because of his look, he may or may not be allowed into Ontario.
What has happened to this dog to cause this level of terror…this isn’t temperament or shelter stress. This dog is really paralyzed by fear.
Visiting this shelter reaffirmed why we made the decision to help US dogs – it’s so desperately needed. I was overcome and speechless at one point, and I considered myself a ‘seasoned rescuer’.
If you have ever considered fostering – it would literally be saving lives of any orphan you opened up your heart and home to. This is just one of the faces.
