Below is what I wrote for a short video clip I took of this dog, named “Gucci”. I’ll post the clip here as well. :(

In 11 years of going into shelters and seeing dogs, I have never seen a dog more petrified than this. He is literally too afraid to move his head and even his eyes. His leg was bent funny and he was too terrified even to move it. He’s been named Gucci and he doesn’t have a chance in this shelter, and not only will h…e go down, he’ll probably be gassed because of the risk of handling. I have asked for a hold to be put on him but the shelter is more overwhelmed than any I’ve ever been in. Because of his look, he may or may not be allowed into Ontario.

What has happened to this dog to cause this level of terror…this isn’t temperament or shelter stress. This dog is really paralyzed by fear.

Visiting this shelter reaffirmed why we made the decision to help US dogs – it’s so desperately needed. I was overcome and speechless at one point, and I considered myself a ‘seasoned rescuer’.

If you have ever considered fostering – it would literally be saving lives of any orphan you opened up your heart and home to. This is just one of the faces.

Oh makes me want to cry. NO dog deserves this treatment. Send him over here and I’ll have him. Serious. (Of course not feasible. But gee he’d have a good home.)

  • The shelter is doing what they can. I’ve done rescue for over 10 yrs and I was really shellshocked at this pound, they need the help so bad. :(
It could probably be made to happen, if you’re really serious…

Where is this dog? Can I help, is his still alive? Let me know.

  • Jan, he’s in central Ohio. We’d be willing to take him in but he could get pegged for a Pit Bull mix at the border (banned in Ontario). :( So the biggest obstacle is a foster home that would be willing to work through this – he’s a major rehab case. He could probably be transported almost anywhere. Ideally I’d love to find a foster home near Buffalo NY, so we could actually be involved hands on with his rehab.
I will definitely post updates on here. Sadly, this shelter alone has 99 runs and often double up. There are old dogs, young dogs, you name it. I’ll be posting photos of others on our facebook group page

Please keep me posted. Wish I lived closer.

  • His time has come up at the shelter Jan. We’re moving heaven and earth to find a way to take him. :(

That is the saddest thing ever Sam, I really hope he was rescued.
Almost seems trite to comment on the wonderful photo, when the subject matter is probably way more important. Thank you for bringing this issue to people’s attention.

  • Thanks Sean. We’re doing everything we can as the shelter is PACKED right now. If you’re on FB, you can follow what happens on our group page there – Barlee’s Angels. :)
