Cranky Cabbage
This shirt used to come with a saying that was familiar in my family – I’m not as green as I’m cabbage looking., but with time I’ve come to like my cabbage friend without the words. I can’t explain why he’s my favourite cabbage, but maybe it’s because he’s what you’d get if you crossed Oscar the Grouch with a brassica?

Really cool design !

Cheers, certainly the best cabbage I’ve ever drawn ;o)
Jakki O
Fantastic design, love the story behind it too :)
samedog replied
Thanks JakkiO, I’ve become quite attached to the cabbage. Some days he looks cranky and other days he just looks strangely pathetic.

It’s always the damn cabbage that’s cranky. ;) Great design!
samedog replied
Thanks mate – yep I know, the carrots always seem OK but I’m generally a bit wary of the cabbage.
Soxy Fleming
he is a great veg
samedog replied
Yeah, he’s not bad Soxy, just don’t cross him.
Jessica King
Haha! He sure is cranky! Could it be wind?
samedog replied
I think it’s more a case that he doesn’t get enough sleep Jessica – if cabbages don’t get their 22 hours a day you’re best to leave them alone I think…

I guess I’d be cranky if everyone wanted to eat me fried with onions and bacon!! For a cranky cabbage, he’s pretty friendly looking ;D
I’m sorry, I don’t understand the description and don’t know what a brassica is (please forgive me ;D) BUT I do love this cabbage!!!!!
samedog replied
Yes, a much maligned vege. I’m not as green as I’m cabbage looking roughly translated means I didn’t come down in the last shower or I’m not as stupid as I look mate. I think Mum still uses the phrase to this day, hence the original version of this was called Mumism #1 (at that point I’d planned many more shirts dedicated to mum’s sayings.
Now for today’s Horticulture 101 – a brassica is a member of the Brassicaceae family which includes your cabbages, cauliflowers, broccoli etc. In a past life I studied production horticulture so the terminology slips in from time to time.

i love it too samedog…..i think i now know why i get a grumbly tummy after eating mr cabbage…..
he doesn’t like to be et….then he plays merry hell in my bell!!!! then he’s gotta come out the other end all different looking and go to a nasty place where they bathe him in chemicals n stuff and he has to disintegrate…..enough to make any cabbage rather cranky if you ask me
lol :D
samedog replied
Ooooh yeah mate – if he’s in your tummy you can guarantee he’s chucking one hell of a fit down there.
I might book him in for some counselling sessions and see if he comes out as a calm cabbage.
georgiegirl
ha ha ha!!!! Karin’s as hilarious as you Samedog!!!!! Thanks so much for the horticultural and Mumism lessons!! I get it now!! I’ve actually heard the stupid one before… except it was ‘i’m not as stupid as you look’. Nice.
Well, I have to say, I’m a nice person… I don’t eat alot of cabbage but loads of broccoli… and broccoli’s not half as grumpy!!!
Maybe the cauli could do the counselling… they’re pretty boring veggies.

Sometimes I wonder about myself and the things I say :D
