The Feral Child

The Feral Child

This picture is inspired by a a neighbors teenage son. This is him leaping though a break in a wall. a break in the wall he created after 4 hours of hitting it.

Where I live in the city many teenagers seem to have become feral. Living from moment to moment, some great anxiety and anger holds them all and they appear to be in a constant state of readiness for something? Combat or escape? I do not know, and I don’t think they do either. Why? I cannot be sure of that, but they are distressed, angry and deeply unhappy about what life brings them.

This picture was made over a year ago, and since then he has been removed from his home buy social services. I have no idea if his life has improved, but I doubt it.

Excellent image, sad story which unfortunately is happening everywhere. Maybe our obsession with consumerism instead of our kids, could be one of the causes?

The facelessness of him lets me see so many children in his position.
There are many, many good foster homes. I was fortunate enough to be in several.

This one wall he broke through is the least of his healing struggles and process. There is so much more to break free from but it is possible. No doubts for him that healing is possible. He was strong enough, willful enough to break through a wall let us hope in the inner strength he has to break down and past his hurts.

Thank you for recognizing this child and making a tribute to him. It matters that you did this ya know?

My mother was a foster child, and her foster parents, (my grandparents, as i knew them) where wonderful people. this however wasn’t the case for all my aunts and uncles. When my grandparents died(my mums foster parent) she went to find out about her other birth parents. They turned out to be alcoholic and violent. All her brothers and sisters went into either homes or adoption. she faired far better than the rest. One committed suicide, and each was some emotional injured.

What scares me the most is I look almost exactly like the real grandfather, what other traits have I inherited? I have had a weakness for using things to dull the pain of life, but I resist them now, lest I fall.

You may have inherited some of your birth family’s traits but if you were raised with love then your destiny can be different than those of your family. Even for those not raised with love or enough love (like myself) our destiny can also be different. It is a grueling task to heal from such things but it can be done.

Best wishes to you and yours,

It certainly has a malevolence to it! Unfortunate to hear of his situation.
