I’ve take almost all my art out of the Brompton Gallery for the moment. I’m starting to feel real world galleries are a bit doomed. Shame as you can’t see how great a piece is until you see it for real.

I do occasionally do what you could call full abstracts as experiments with paint and emotion. But it’s not what I’m best know for. I find doing these keeps the rest of my paintings loose. With semi realistic pieces its very easy to focus on the realism and for get to just let go.

It makes me long to be able to paint. . . or more accurately to have the courage to try. to step beyond the framework or safety net of the photographic image that I use as the basis for my own work and freeclimb using nothing but brushes, paint and my imagination. You have inspired me to think again about taking the chance.
