What barter clubs are you a member of; and are the local or part of large internet franchises? How do you like them?

Great question,
We utilize a local e-mail chain called Freecycle. Within the chain one can offer something for free or post a wanted ad. It has been great for us. We have gotten and given quite a few things.
We often trade with our sign shop customers. We have traded for shoes, meals, dentistry, auto work and other services.
However, I am no less a slave than anyone else. We only survive by juggling 0% credit cards…

An email chain, how fascinating. I’ve been interested, but never took the leap, probably due to initial cost, since I noticed them on the web about eleven years ago. Have a friend who used to run a mid-western state branch of a large national group. She and I have discussed putting my programming skills together with her hands-on organization know-how to create something new. (Both of us are very fair minded, although that will buy you a milk-shake, I suppose.)
The concept is fabulous. Especially when there’s a way to faciliate 3 and 4 way trades, or rather indirect swaps of goods and services. I believe ultimately we may come full circle here in the U.S. and bring bartering back in a huge way. It’s already huge, but so quiet. Wonder why. Do you know Sam? Is there heat on these groups (for sales tax, etc.)?
I’m very interested, and think this is as good a place as any to discuss this openly and engage others’ opinions and experiences. And I’m very interested in your own. Thank you.

This is definitely all worth working on. I too think we will see more ideas like this become a larger part of our economy.
Of course the tax man always wants his piece…
I think the Freecycle is exempt because everything exchanged is free.
