The Last Supper ie. The Last Time I Eat At Your House.

The Last Supper ie. The Last Time I Eat At Your House.

This is a re-do of an older piece. This like the original is painted on an old recycled formica top table top. They are heavy but make a dramatic canvas and background. I have maybe twenty more on tables out there in the world. The size of this is roughly 6’x3’, the original is more like 8’ wide.

    Hello fellow bubblers,
I wanted to jump in and thank you all for stopping by, and a special thank you to all who commented and or favorited this piece. I try to keep the comment replies to a minimum on some pieces as I think a huge list of replies start to get a little jammed up looking. I would like to leave the space for your much appreciated comments. However I’ll probably stop by and give you a more personal thank you in the form of a Bubble mail.

    Enjoy…

I don’t think this is intended to be a pro-Christian picture, but as a Christian I see it as showing how our Lord would be treated by many nominal Christians if He returned today. They all seem too preoccupied with their own lives to pay Him any attention. Just thought you’d be interested on a Christian slant to it. Significant too that the so-called Christian with the cross on his lapel is looking the other way. Could be used as a message against hypocrisy. Artistically, the painting is excellent, but after looking through your portfolio I’d say it was superfluous of me to say that, as ALL your artwork is of such a high standard that I am in awe of it.

  • Sam Dantone replied

Yours is the exact response I am looking for. I am so grateful you see through the hypocrisy. I can’t claim to be a christian nor to be against being one. I am, however, repulsed by much of formed religion, of all faiths, when they use it as a weapon, a prejudice, or a higher ground. Jesus, I believe would agree.

Thank you, greatly, for your thoughtful comments…

    Sam

I read my Bible (not maybe as much as I should though) and so much of what Jesus said is not practiced by some of the churches today. Many people think that going to church makes them better than other people. Jesus, however, tended to favour those who thought they were unworthy of His love, rather than those who felt superior to everyone else. As an example, although I myself am heterosexual, I get annoyed over the smug way some churchgoers condemn homosexuality as the greatest sin ever. Okay … the Bible does condemn the act of sodomy, but it is included in the same list as premarital sex, adultery, telling lies and stealing … and not in a class of its own. Have you heard of that disgusting Phelps family in USA? They give Christianity a bad name with their blatant homophobia. Okay … sermon over :) I love your artwork and it was a nice surprise to find you’d commented favourably on some of my work too.

I think it has a lot of information and reminders to us Christians. I don’t know if Christ could tolerate the electronic filth in our homes: swearing, not reading Scriptures, not making the family of primary importance after our relationship with our Heavenly Father and the Christ. The fact is, God can’t abide sin, and I see a bit of it in your pic. The father’s watching TV, apparently, and not interacting, never mind leading his family in prayer, nor turning the family’s attention to the love and care and conversation amongst each oht, and he’s not helping his wife. Surprisingly to most guys, Men are to become like Jesus- compassionate, caring, loyal to family and friends, and helpful, i.e., the Wedding at Cana. Mary brought her Son along to help. [This ought to stir up a discussion!] Dayonda

  • Sam Dantone replied

    Thank you Dayonda,
I really appreciate your comment. I am sure some folks dismiss this image as it does not portray some Christians in the best light. You are correct to see that I am pointing out the hypocrisy of those who claim a higher standing because of their faith, yet live a life that Jesus would abhor…
