Thurra River - Croajingolong National Park by

Sunset over the Thurra River Croajingolong National Park, Victoria, Australia. My campsite is just off to the left of this image in between the mahogany gums. The campsites here are not powered or watered. You bring in what you need. In total there are 45 campsites here. Dinner is cooked around one of the areas designated for campfires. Ive taken this image from the bridge that allows you into the camp ground from the Cann river road.
The ambience here is wonderful. Calmness and serenity wash all those demons away. This dune walk starts at the Thurra River camping ground. You make your way up to the dunes walk taking in the biggest dunes in Australia and then down again coming back via the Thurra river. Usually knee deep its a refreshing walk back about a kilometre. If you look to the back of the image you can see the very top of the dunes. They are huge and a lot of fun. Dont do it on too hot a day though, you will cook. Its challenging fitness wise so take some water and your camera for the views and the rest breaks which you will need. The walk back through the river is awesome and possibly my most favourite part because at the end near camp you can go for a refreshing dip to top it all off. The whole trip can take up to three hours depending on what you stop and do. Thurra river is dotted with schools of mullet, the odd red bellied black snake and you might be lucky to discover a submerged water dragon like i did one year. Crystal clear water, wilderness and nature at its finest. It truly is a diverse area.
