Phil Thomson IPA
A very powerful and emotional image, Sal !! After being a funeral director, a few years ago, and always fascinated listening to the the eulogies, one has to wonder what sorts of stories are behind these crosses.
salsbells69
Thanks Phil~! I guess you would have to read up on it. ‘Weary Dunlop’ Biography is a good start.
His ashes are scattered here (which I never knew until I attended) So much pain and suffering at the hands of the Japanese Army – it grabs your breath this place. Thanks for the comments.
Peter Hill
This is a stunning photo. Too often we see one dimensional normality, shoot it thus, and end up with nothing to stimulate the eye or mind past a bare record. Change the perspective, respond to the urge to be different, and suddenly the shot is invigorated with evocative power, as evidenced by the responses before me. You got it. We are richer for it. Thank you.
salsbells69 replied
Peterh111~ Your comments have humbled me. Thanks so much for taking the time to pass your thoughts on. I am very pleased that you see more than just a photo. Thanks as well for favouriting this piece.

Poignant and moving…..., sad to think how many crosses are distributed around this world as a result of war and conflict

Absolutely Global. This is a very moving place. Thanks for taking the time to be moved. :))

My uncle survived the railway but quite likely he knew some of the men commemorated. Thank you for showing us a place many of will not have the opportunity to see for ourselves and doing it so artistically
salsbells69 replied
Kaz~ Thankyou for taking the personal journey of just viewing this. No doubt it moves you in same way, shape or form. Thankyou for your wonderful comment. No doubt your uncle did know persons here…the suffering was tremendous and the conditions hell. I really felt connected to this place but I dont know anyone personally that was caught up in this whole mess. Its a very powerful and moving place. I do hope you get to visit it..one day.

Congratulations on the Home Page Feature 11.11.09. Lest we forget …
I have also taken the train through the pass, and visited the cemetary and stood stunned at the sheer number of graves, as well as mass graves of unknown soldiers. It does us good to pause and remember
salsbells69 replied
