Blues Trumpet by Sally Sargent

Currently unavailable for purchase

I was walking down the street in San Francisco and I saw a homeless man seat himself in a doorway and open a black case. From this case he produced a shiny trumpet. He put the trumpet to his lips and produced some of the greatest blues music I have ever heard. When I got home I felt compelled to draw this man as I remembered him. This drawing is graphite on paper

When viewing a group of musicians or listening to music the musicians blend into their instruments for me and they sing as one.
In all of my work I have a fondness for bold color, clear values and wild texture.
My imagination works overtime. I hope you enjoy viewing my work.

Wow Sally- what the Blues is all about honey…very soulful work xxx

  • You caught the right word, the sounds emanating from this man’s trumpet were just that, soulful! Thanks for commenting on him. After I saw him I couldn’t get his image out of my mind until I put him on paper. I did a full sheet watercolor from this drawing.. I think the drawing is the more powerful image. Sally
