this was my first ever attempt at printmaking. I built up the surface of a piece of cardboard by covering it with layers of pva glue. Once it had dried, I cut into the card with a stanley knife, removing all the areas which were to be the outlines.
Then I covered the whole thing in a thin layer of shellack, to seal it.
after inking the entire surface, I rubbed it off using squares of newspaper, removing all ink except for that which settled in the incisions.
the textured effect in the background was quite a lucky fluke. It ’s a result of the pva drying unevenly. I love how you never know what a print will look like until that first proof run!
