Like a ancient Man O War beached in the wilderness the ruins of the Oil Shale Mine at Glen Davis in the Capertee Valley West of Sydney.

Glen Davis is an old shale mining town located 70 kilometres north of Lithgow in the Capertee Valley, Glen Davis constituted the only attempt to commercially produce petrol from shale oil in Australia.

    The history needs preservation…interesting angle to get the man-of-war effect.

  • Thats right Phil unfortunately their is no preservation going on at the ruins , i believe they tried to get heritage protection but it was not successful. In fact the tour guide said one of the previous owners of the property had let the army use the site , and one of these structures was blown up
