There Will Always Be A Avalon ! - Avalon Beach, Sydney - The HDR Experience by

Avalon is a northern beachside suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Avalon is located 35 kilometres north of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of Pittwater Council, in the Northern Beaches region.

Avalon was named after the mythical Avalon, a legendary island in Celtic languages mythology. According to legends, Avalon was an earthly paradise and the final resting place of King Arthur.

The first land grant in the area was 60 acres (240,000 m2) to John Farrell in 1827. A 400-acre (1.6 km2) land grant was made to Father John Joseph Therry in 1833, who fought hard for the recognition of the Catholic Church in the colony.

He built a church in this area but his plans for a settlement never eventuated. In the 1920s, the area was still known as ’Priest’s Flat’. Arthur J Small handled a subdivision in 1921 and chose the name Avalon.

Avalon is east of Clareville, situated between Whale beach to the north and Bilgola to the south. Avalon is home to the few remaining koalas able to survive in an increasingly urban environment, a reminder that there once were many more in Pittwater.
Avalon Beach is superb for swimming, surfing windsurfing and fishing. A rock swimming pool is located at the southern end of the beach. A shady park area provides refuge from the summer sun, together with picnic and barbeque facilities.

It is my neighbourhood, great for watching the sun greet the east coast of Australia, the northern beaches are a must when visiting Sydney , Avalon can be reached by car or bus from the Sydney CBD the beaches here are far less crowded than your more publicised Bondi Beach.

An alternative trip would be to hop a ferry across Sydney Harbour to Manly then hop a bus and cruise the northern beaches and have a bite to eat or a picnic. Buy a day tripper pass for unlimited bus , ferry and train transport for the day for under $20.00AUD
