Tagging - To Tag Or Not To Tag That Is The Question ?

What are the benefits of tagging your image, most of us do but what are your thoughts and tips in tagging your image also, if you have any tips you would like to share in getting your work noticed here in the wonderful world of RB and the wider internet ?

yeah I tag my work, not sure if it works, but you never know

when tagging my sydney harbour shots i tag harbour and harbor, not sure that is necessary, but i keep in mind that we have different spellings in this great big world

I know it works, as i have used search engines to find images of “something”
    so I tag my work.
    great topic

i suppose talk about linking to social networks is another interesting topic

yes, I use stumble upon, it does get views, lots of them in fact.
I also started using a signature with my RB site on it.
thought it was tuff being a photographer ( im new :)
    Marketing 101 is a killer!

I don’t tag my photo’s here on Redbubble, I do on Flickr… Google searches brings my Flickr work up much more than my Redbubble work… perhaps I should learn a lesson from that.. :-)

A non-bubbler, just looking for something to hang on the wall will just enter what is looking for in the search box. If your tag fits what he has entered – hey presto. If you have work on other sites it’s worth tagging your name too. You never know.

Look I’m lost when it comes to tagging
I was using it till they brought in the commas and now I just dont!

I guess the benefits would be to collate your work easier but if I cannot find out how to actually use that what’s the point of that!
from what I’ve heard RB want to push the Tagging strongly! You wait and see – They’ll have some whizz bang widget coming up that relies on Tagging!

So when I figure out how to then collate my work using the tags I’ll look at tagging my work again all 400 – 500 + pieces! {sigh} =0þ

    Chookas mate! ♥

Another comment. Tagging is fine, however, we have to promote our art individually. If you have a horse shot, for example, and you include a tag of horse so people can find it. Well, think about it, search on horse and see how many pages come up. Actually, I just did that and 967 pages come up.

How is someone going to find your horse? There are two answers: by searching your name, or they just happen upon it while looking at horse images. So, the more specific you are about your tags the more chance there is for someone to find you.

    Does that make sense?

    AHHH well that’s it then
as Writers don’t have product to sell tagging for us is relatively senseless!
    Maybe one day

I like the idea of adding your name to tagging that would help establish you as one of the artists in this bubble world associated to that genre / focus / subject / topic
    Chookas! ♥

Oh, I don’t know. I think tagging brings more looters than buyers to your images, but it also assists in making list of different styles of photos on your profile. Then, of course, I seem to forget putting the right tag in place to assist in the last instance, I still do it. I am always hopeful that National Geographic will be needing a really good photo of something that one of their paid photogs had not produced by deadline and they will do a Google search, come up with one of mine, and ask if they can use it for whatever price they are willing to give, if any, because, it would actually be payment enough for me to get one of my photos in National Geographic. You ask, you get it sometime with both barrels! :)

I’ve had shots sourced by the tags, my old dad had 2 shots published through tagging … yes it works. I remember Googling a venue a while back to fiind historical info, and the first entry on Google, ahead of their own site, was MY Redbubble shot that had been taken there and appropriately tagged!!! Woohooo. Why not tag? It costs nothing and only takes a minute.

Tag,Tag Tag ,is a must ,! I get slack on this though, but it is very important ,anyone who searches on google ,yahoo, etc if your images are not tagged they wont be found at all, same goes if making products at cafepress and zazzle etc ,,the next tip is to market your stuff cross linking with relevant sites etc ,blog,it is a lot of work ,but pays off

Many’s the time when I’ve been searching for info on different subjects I’ve come across links to Flickr users, RB-ers, Webshotters etc and I occasionally get comments from people who have come across one of my tags. The best thing to happen, though, was a few months ago when some wonderful person paid RB around $150 for a framed photo of one of my shots – that was the direct result of a tag because they emailed me when they received the picture, both to thank me and also to tell me how they came across it.
So tags DO work but you need to be lucky and have your work on the first couple of pages to stand a reasonable chance of it being seen. Peter

Phil I believe tagging works as far as number of views are concerned. My Phil didn’t think he was getting many comments but when I went in and checked his art profile I found he was scoring much better than me in number of views and I believe this was possibly because his work had recognisable or popular tags … so I think it proves people are out there on RB or elsewhere hitting up a word (e.g. Newcastle Harbour) and coming up with his images or something related to what they want. I think there are two ways to get heaps of comments and that is tagging and being popular (having lots of people of your watchlist and getting known)♥

  • Philip Johnson replied

yes have to agree there when i joined rb , someone said to me to get started watch as many people as possible, comment and join as many groups as possible. i am now approaching 300,000 views.
