This female pelican was brought up by the boat owner we toured with on the Kalgan River, Albany, Western Australia. He found the young pelican trapped in fishing line, rescued it and let it go, but it continues to seek him out and follows him on his river boat trips. It will allow him to hand feed it fish and has learned to follow some commands. She has been named ‘Percy’.

A very important pelican by the sounds of it Margaret. I’ve been to Emu Point a few times and got a few pelican shots, but not one quite this close. He’s a beauty.

  • Thank you Elaine! He is a ‘she’ actually, and didn’t mind us getting close to her at all.
