I have thought about how to render the Maryvale castle for a long time. I see it every day during the school year. It is an imposing grand manor house built in 1917 in the likeness of the Warwick Castle in England. I decided to create this image while taking summer camp students to the front of the castle to draw. The morning sun had reached the windows on the front of the castle. I think it is that glorious reflection that I find so inspiring. The castle, now part of Maryvale Preparatory School is to me an icon of refuge from a sick and sad world. It symbolizes civility and order. The castle is a fortress not to hide in but to become stronger.
