Having grown up and spent so many years living in the African bush, my wife possesses an uncanny skill in reading the nuances of the wilderness.

While enjoying an early morning cup of tea together, she picked up the urgent sound of tree squirrel and francolin alarm calls. Hastily throwing the bits and pieces of our tea back into the basket she had me racing down the road…..just in time to catch this gorgeous leopard (Panthera Pardus) slipping off into the bush.

Although Canadian by birth, I grew up in Africa and from an early age travel became a regular part of my life. As a result I developed an early passion for my two great loves, Africa and aviation. Being fortunate to return to Africa every year with our own safari company “Explorations Africa”, all of my photos of wildlife are taken in their natural and unstaged settings. Please visit us at

thats a really special pic – awesome work dan !

  • Thanks very much Dean! I was very untypically unprepared when we came across this guy and so was so grateful that he stopped a couple times to check us out. Gave me enough time to change lenses and capture him before he melted into the grass and simply disappeared.
