One of the most beautiful, yet retiring African antelope is definitely the nyala (Tragelaphus angasii) With a somewhat limited range running from lower Malawi through Mozambique and eastern Zimbabwe as far south as northern South Africa, they are not a particularly common species. Their preference for the thick bush and undergrowth of riverine forest compounds the difficulty in finding this extrodinarily handsome antelope.

Kruger National Park, South Africa

Although Canadian by birth, I grew up in Africa and from an early age travel became a regular part of my life. As a result I developed an early passion for my two great loves, Africa and aviation. Being fortunate to return to Africa every year with our own safari company “Explorations Africa”, all of my photos of wildlife are taken in their natural and unstaged settings. Please visit us at

beautiful capture that points up the shyness of this lovely creature

  • Thanks so much Carol! I think the shyness just adds to their appeal and was so pleased to be able to capture this one fairly clearly.
