Thundering and crashing through the bush around me, this massive herd of buffalo (Syncerus caffer) a few hundred strong was generating an immense dust storm. As their headlong rush began to slow, a few of them decided to pause and ponder the strange animal in their midst. Interestingly, they were all exhibiting to one degree or another, the buffaloes curious ability to partially shut the eye exposed to the light while keeping the shaded eye wide open.

Although Canadian by birth, I grew up in Africa and from an early age travel became a regular part of my life. As a result I developed an early passion for my two great loves, Africa and aviation. Being fortunate to return to Africa every year with our own safari company “Explorations Africa”, all of my photos of wildlife are taken in their natural and unstaged settings.
