A young elephant (Loxodonta africana) eagerly feasts on the few fresh leaves bravely sprouting despite the wilting dryness of early spring. The landscape was desperate for moisture and very few trees were actually sprouting any kind of greenery. I landed back in the Chobe a couple weeks later and from the air could see that every tentative green sign of spring had withered in the face of the continued dryness.

Although Canadian by birth, I grew up in Africa and from an early age travel became a regular part of my life. As a result I developed an early passion for my two great loves, Africa and aviation. Being fortunate to return to Africa every year with our own safari company “Explorations Africa”, all of my photos of wildlife are taken in their natural and unstaged settings. Please visit us at

    Art Quote of the Day
No great artist ever sees things as they really are. If he did, he would cease to be an artist.
