Artist's Description

Protesting loudly, an extremely young lion cub (Panthera leo) objects but doesn’t resist as its mother very carefully and tenderly clamps it in her jaws in order to carry it to safety. A lioness will move off from the pride to give birth and will keep the young cubs seperated from them for about 6 weeks. Due to the threat posed by other predators, she needs to move her cubs every few days to a new location in order to minimize the chance of their discovery. Seeing young cubs at this age is somewhat rare as the only time they are out and about is when the lioness moves them to a new location.

South Luangwa National Park, Zambia
