The empty spaces and great broad skies of the Kalahari have a draw and attraction all their own. Immense in size as the largest private game reserve in South Africa, Tswalu allows one to sample and absorb the enormity and immensity of this stunning landscape in a unique and unharried fashion, free from the press of crowds and jostling safari vehicles, while offering up a delight of wildlife experiences second to none.

Tswalu game reserve, South Africa.

Although Canadian by birth, I grew up in Africa and from an early age travel became a regular part of my life. As a result I developed an early passion for my two great loves, Africa and aviation. Being fortunate to return to Africa every year with our own safari company “Explorations Africa”, all of my photos of wildlife are taken in their natural and unstaged settings. Please visit us at

THIS is the rich red earth of north west Australia too… except the wildlife is very different of course. No big carnivores (a chorus of deadly snakes and spiders instead).
Have wanted to visit South Africa since I was 16 years old – a couple of centuries ago. To see that “stunning landscape in a unique and unharried fashion, free from the press of crowds and jostling safari vehicles” would be a dream. You’ve caught something of that essence here – the beating heart of a huge untamed wilderness. Well done!

  • Wow…thanks Carol. I have to say that the first time I flew into West Autstralia, I almost felt like I was looking down on Africa.

i love this! well done on your features! did you see a lot of wildlife?

  • Thank you so much! I was incredibly fortunate and saw an absolutely amazing array of wildlife, particularly enjoying sightings of the very unique desert adapted animals. I wish I had the time to post more! Particularly at Tswalu reserve though, the landscape seemed to just grab me and make the experience that much richer.
