A young female giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) leans up against mom in a moment of tender reassurance. Although appearing an ungainly and clumsy mess of legs and neck, they can nevertheless pose a tremendous challenge to predators trying to bring them down. Giraffe have been known to break the back of more than one lion, and with the added incentive of a young one to protect, her hoofs make formidable weapons not to be taken lightly.
