Olympus E520, 1/250, f5.6

Zebra (Equus quagga) can be absolutely hilarious to observe, rolling and romping in the dust as well as possessing the comical ability to pull faces a comedian would die for. With her face grimace, it appears this female is trying to present somewhat of an aggresive stance. The ears generally are the give away, with ears flattened back indicating that serious business is afoot as oppossed to a more submissive stance indicated by ears forward.
If I remember right, this mare was simply trying to mix it up with another mare…definitely not being taken too seriously by our subject on the left!
With early morning light highlighting her of so unfeminine facial hair, this poor girl on the left just looks like she needs a fly swatter to deal with the pest behind her, and a coffee to help her start her day…before going and taking a shave.

Imfolozi reserve, South Africa

Although Canadian by birth, I grew up in Africa and from an early age travel became a regular part of my life. As a result I developed an early passion for my two great loves, Africa and aviation. Being fortunate to return to Africa every year with our own safari company “Explorations Africa”, all of my photos of wildlife are taken in their natural and unstaged settings.
