Being at a distinct disadvantage in size and weight compared to the larger cats, the female Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) has to be particularly adept at keeping her young family well clear of any danger. This female had taken up position with her 3 young ones, on an embankment overlooking a large plain in the Mkuze Falls private reserve. Although the cubs were definitely relaxed and comfortable, the mother never dropped her guard, constantly keeping a keen eye on her surroundings. This moment of tender reassurance captured so beautifully her incredible care and attention.

Although Canadian by birth, I grew up in Africa and from an early age travel became a regular part of my life. As a result I developed an early passion for my two great loves, Africa and aviation. Returning to Africa every year, all of my photos of wildlife are taken in their natural and unstaged settings.
