Often reviled because of their inclination to savour the dead remains of anything they can sink their teeth into, the hyena (Crocuta crocuta) is actually a fascinating piece of the ecological puzzle that makes the bush so enchanting. With insanely powerful jaws and incredibly strong stomach juices, they are capable of handling the most rancid of carcasses, with the salivating jaws being somewhat of a trademark look.
