This image is from my ‘online’ exhibition which I entitled ‘美:BI:BEAUTY’. This exhibition has three aspects – this is from one aspect which is an installation which I created from the box framed collages and Kanji cut-outs.
The images have been created by images and a cut-out from short-lived ‘gossip’ magazines, which are the materials I use and recycle as the major material component of this project. Two of the images are folded and distorted to the point of caricature and I have playfully appropriated the images and cut-out.
I used rectangular commercial box frames to ‘house’ the collage and image, and I installed them in the square shadow box (h & w 29 cm x d 12 cm) which echo squares of origami paper.

*The glass on the front of the box frame on the left side has a translucent printed image with the appropriate text for the image in both English and Japanese, with the result that the image and text cast shadows onto the imagery in the frame.

I am an Australian artist who has worked in mixed media drawing, painting, folded collage, handmade felt, installation and performance art as well as short film. Many of my works address contemporary concerns while exploring the folding which I evolved from Origami and recycling of Kimono fabric from my cultural background. The resulting complexity from my dual identity is a cultural melange of East and West which is integral to and embedded in my work.
