Childhood fantasy
This is another comment on the distinction between ‘high’ and ‘low’ art, or ‘mainstream’ ‘high’ and ‘pop’ culture (there’s also a plethora of subcultures, but let’s not complicate things, now).
I’ve always loved this strange Rousseau image of a mighty tiger, terrified by the thunder and the rain, but it occurred to me recently that I’ve seen this somewhere before…
He is depiced here, of course, as Cringer, He-Man’s cowardly green sidekick. The mythological figure of the cowardly tiger seems to recurr in these two instances at least (anyone who’s ever read Beaudrillard will probably be either nodding sagely or cringing themselves at this point). Proof, if proof were needed, that there is nothing new under the sun, and any artist who considers their work ‘original’ is kidding themselves.
Available for sale as Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints and Framed Prints

Just a case of finding a reasonably large image of Rousseau’s original art, open in Photoshop CS2, select relevent areas using pen tool and toy around with hue/saturation until you get the right colour. Very simple, but in ases like this, very effective! x

Err…well, I can’t really take credit for the rest of it; it’s pure, unadulterated Rousseau (who is probably spinning in his grave as we speak, poor soul…Sorry Rousseau)
Thanks anyway, though! :)
