There I sat. Watching from high up, with a Birdseye view upon my warriors of the board. Standing still in the time, waiting for my orders. To them I was God. I created everything to them, I even ‘breathed’ life into their cold lifeless bodies.

My opponent sat opposite to me and in the same situation. I have always been on the side of light and him on the side of dark. Below my army of soldiers stood on squares of white and black – showing the light and dark of the ground.

The air around us was steady and cold, the trees around us watched, waiting for our starting move. There was a crowd around us looking on in anticipation, some for the light and others for the dark.

Due to my honourable personality I let my opponent move first. He pursed his lips together and announced his first move ‘E7 to E5’.With his command it moved forwards. The Black Commander’s cheer squad clapped and cheered for him.

I eased back in my chair and smiled ‘E2 to E4’ I spoke, my eyes watched my pawn move forwards with a patient style of walk. All my soldiers inherited that from me.

Some would say that my up myself attitude would be my demise but that has never happened, my confidence in my subjects drew us all to victory. I was left with their fate in my hands and I would never make a wrong move.

A deep sigh came from my opponent’s mouth, his blue sapphire eyes glared down upon my people – pondering on what move to make next. His teeth gleamed in the bright sunlight ‘What a very silly move, E5 to E3’ he sneered, his black pawn thrusted his sword into my white pawn.

My opponent lifted up the dead soldier with his hands and placed him on his side of the board. Wild cheers escaped the black player’s crowd ‘Well done’ ‘Great move, show her what you’re made of’

Lost in deep thought I planned out my next move. I nodded at my queen and announced my move ’ D1 to 5H’. My crowd inhaled deeply with the black players crowd shocked. He looked up at me with a puzzled look
‘We just started the game and you already move your queen, you aren’t very smart are you?’ I shook my head and kept quiet.

‘A quiet one, are we? Alright then, B8 to C6’ He grinned devilishly. A deep neigh escaped the black stallion as it trotted to its ordered spot.

In the back of my mind I had already planned out all my moves, it was just a matter of time to act them out. I realised it was my turn ‘F1 to C4’ I ordered.
My bishop walked across the board, past the other pawns and to his spot. A holy aura glowed around him as he stood still watching the black stallion.

The black player moved uneasily in his chair ‘A risky move I might say’ He remarked ‘But now it’s my turn, C6 to B4’ he added with a delightfuly smug face. His black stallion galloped towards my bishop and broke every bone in his body. His lifeless corpse dragged next to my fallen pawn.

The faces of my minions broke into sorrow, sad faces and upset eyes watched as the enemy’s subjects laughed at them with no remorse. A sharp remark escaped the black kings mouth ‘For the darkness, light will never prevail’.

A smirk formed on my amethyst shining lips, the sparkle of the light shone towards my warriors. ’I pass’. I looked my dark companion in the eyes and continued softly, ’your go again’.

The crowd around myself and him gasped in shock, he glanced at me like I was a madman. ‘You know, its people like you who let the light fall’ he taunted.

‘Prepare to be defeated, G8 to F6’ he sneered cheerfully. His Black mare reared up on her back legs and cantered to her black square. She turned her head towards my Queen and flared her nostrils angrily towards her.

My eyes scanned the board and smiled ‘H5 to F7’.

My white queen bowed towards the black mare and walked gracefully towards the black king. She lifted up her staff and announced ‘Checkmate’

A red light shone from the ruby on top of her staff, a bright light sparked across the board – Everything went back to the start, the fallen players alive and motionless and the Queen back in her spot.

The black player stood up and bowed ‘Good game Lessia’ he expressed with a blank face.

‘Thank you Nathanael’ I responded cheerfully.

Nathanael and his crowd disappeared along with my crowd as well but in their exchange a tall man with blonde hair appeared. I noticed him and ran up to him and smiled ‘I won’. He patted me on the head and hugged me.

‘Great game Lessia’ he exclaimed as he grinned at me.

I pulled away, looked down then up at him ‘Are you…happy?’ I questioned.

He tilted his head to the side and smirked ‘Of course I am, this is another win under our belts’ he noted

Another win for…my lord and master

Interesting… there are more things going on than meets the eye. Nice details and a careful buildup of suspense had me holding my breath as I read.
