St Peter and St Paul at Newchurch on Kents Romney Marsh was built in the 13th Century. Two hundred years later a tower was added to the west end and after building the first two stages it began to subside under its own weight into the soft soil below and building was abandoned. The tower and its arch within now lean out perilously but once it had settled repairs were made and the final stage completed straight up hence the ‘kink’ seen today.
