The medieval towers of the ruined church of St Mary are Reculver’s “most dominant features”.These towers were added in the late 12th century to an existing church, which was founded in 669, when King Ecgberht of Kent granted land at Reculver to “Bassa the priest”, for the foundation of a monastery

It was demolished when close to falling into the sea in the 1800’s and is now in the care of English Heritage. For detailed history see
