The ancient fires returned with mystic timing,
Some blazed and raced over the land,
Some lazed around dazed plants intertwining hot licks with green, brown, Red,
Furry, feathered, shelled and scaled wicks.
Everything a wick,
Everything alive became alight.
Like clockwork the fires danced together,
& became mystery,
& became new life.
This humble fire, healthy and noble,
Sat upon the land,
Recycling soil and stars.

This has such beauty for me. I know some folks affected by Black Saturday, and years earlier, Ash Wednesday, yet I too still recognise the rejuvenation possible from fire – and respect its power.

  • Yes. I definitely want to show that we, as Australians, suffer from the fires yet we are also growing through them and some of us are even born again. Thanks for the feedback Debbie :)
