Gaia, pigment ink on paper by Regina Valluzzi

Abstract, Micron Pigmacolor pigment ink markers (fine line felt tips) on smooth Bristol board. Roughly 7″×10″. Original is not for sale.

In myths and fairytales, the ancient gods and goddesses are presented as protagonists in very human stories. But how must they have seemed to humans living close to the splendor, terror and awe that is everywhere in the natural world? With what beautiful and terrible otherworldly qualities would they imbue their ideas of an Earth Goddess? Perhaps a being compellingly surreal, dreamlike, poised and beautiful, twining many complex elements into a strangely balanced whole.

This is more of a surreal visual editorial than an actual depiction – it depicts the idea of Gaia. The bold figure is enmeshed with other forms in finer lines – as if “Gaia” embiodies and gives rise to natural forms.

The original is roughly notebook sized – please note this when selecting a print size. Ink on paper, using “Micron Pigmacolor 05 and 005” fine point pen on Bristol Board.

Thank you so much for the comments. I drew this years ago, on a Bristol pad that I’d snuck into a boring class. I finished it at home, and sold a print to the professor!

The redbubble prints – if I sell any – will thus technically be the second print run, but all but one or two of the first group of prints were destroyed in an accident years ago. I still have the original and the negatives from the print run!
