Acrylic on panel, 18 × 24 inches
The landscape is created using layers of thick translucent tinted glaze, poured onto the panel and loosely worked into position. Rakes were used to add texture and to organize the colors and thick layers. Foliage and grasses were painted in as a last step. Creating a landscape using this layered and loose approach emphasizes many of the abstract and structural features of the painting, while still retaining a recognizable impression of a place. The surface is very glossy, and the paint film is deep with 3-dimensional paint inside the painting, almost like glass. My sweetie says it reminds him of the village where his family comes from, in South Eastern Bulgaria, not far from Sofia.
