Intercessory Prayer
Taken from my blog:
I was going through some paintings in my studio and stumbled upon this one that I had done some time ago. I had initially put it aside calling it a “WIP” and had fully intended to go back and do more work on it but never did. I’d shown it as a WIP to some arteeeest friends who had liked it very much “as is” and then just rolled it up and forgot about it. It’s huge…not exactly sure off hand how large but it’s on unstretched canvas….I’d say about 4ft X 5ft. What this piece represents is (and I remember painting it during one of those dry spiritual periods when I was trying desperately to pray but just couldn’t find the words) our prayers, which are sometimes nothing more than moans and groans….but are interpreted for us by the Holy Spirit giving us a direct and uninterrupted line to our Father. This happens often during our times of spiritual emptiness when we are reaching out to God and the words just don’t come. For those of you who are Christians, you will know this scripture from the Bible: Romans 8:26 (New International Version) “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.” Anyway, when I pulled the painting out this morning, I decided that just as Jesus said on the cross, “it is finished”.....and would like to share it with you all. Never stop talking to God, He always hears….even the moans and groans! Be Blessed.

BETTY LIKES IT…SO DO I
Ruth Palmer
Thank you Stacy. It must have been what I felt in my Spirit at the time. Just grabbed a brush and started scumbling. Sometimes the results can really astound us when we just let go and let our hearts take control. I’m so glad you like it and thank you for the favourite!
Ruth Palmer
Thanks Paul! Who is Betty? Thank her too!
Suni Pruett
I absolutely love this one too…I must say..the explanation behind it fully makes it all the better… Another favorite dear…good job!!

Courageous and powerfull painting. Glad you saved it from oblivion. There is a lot of moaning and groaning going on in my inner life at the moment, so probably that is why it strongly appeals to me. Yeah, well, we just crawl further … lol

a beautiful piece of work, i’d love to see the canvas.
it can be hard to know when a ‘WIP’ is finished, especially one so searching, but i am glad you heeded the voices and have put it out as it is. it really captures something, a lot in fact, about what you say its looking for. sometimes prayers answer themselves
AngelArtist
You make amazing abstracts. I really admire people who can make good abstracts. I really cannot.

That sure does look like our tangle of prayers when all we can do is groan! Know the feeling well! Thank God for His Holy Spirit, who does indeed intercede for us! Beautiful beautiful anointed painting. I praise God for the gift He has given you.
Marie Sharp
Upon viewing this, I thought of Olga’s recent bubblemail. This is an excellent example of art to promote diversity and acceptance. The prayers of ALL GOD’S people raising to his heavenly throne!

RUth I have only just seen this now as I looked at the entries in the ‘For the Love of Jesus’ challenge…and I have to say I absolutely love it!
As soon as I spotted in the thumbnail version I ‘knew’ it. Then I read your descritiption taken from your blog and was simply blown away!!!For I look at it and thought prayer!!!!!!!!:O
how awesome and spirit filled is that???
All I could see was a mingling of prayers lifting to God…and that was long before I spotted the people you have so skilfully placed beneath them…I just don’t know what to say or how to put into words what my heart sees and my soul feels when I look upon this work….this Creation. ANd yes, with a capital C…for I see there is more of God and Spirit in this than you, if you know what I mean.
This was and remains a prayer prayed. In essence it was God’s gift to you at a desert time.
And now it is His and through you, your gift to us!!
Thank you so much for blessing us so richly and deeply with your gifting, both in works and in the beautiful person you are.

Hello! I am discovering the power of intersession and this painting just stood right out ot me of an example of the seeming chaos I feel when i can’t find the words of the strength to pray. Isn’t the Holy Spirit so very real when we hand it all over. Thank and God Bless YOU.

Oh my goodness. Like Jan Stead, I didn’t see the people until after I’d rejoiced in the multitude of colors being called out to God. What a blessing to see the rest of the picture. Reading the responses, it appears the same Spirit is moving in the hearts of those that see your piece. Thank you so much.

Prayer is a powerful medium and I think you captured the essense of its meditative form in the chaos of colors and events that we have in our minds! Fabulous colors, and I am fascinated with your use of them to express yourself!

I come back and look at this every now and then. Sharing it with other family members.
I think that a portion of many of these pictures should be laminated into bookmarks and be sold by the dozen. So many people wood love to have them to hand out fo family and friends. I’m sure it’s too late for an idea to be presented to RB for this Christmas but I’m sure they would sell.
Those being available wouldn’t prevent someone from buying a picture. But would increase their ability to have something in their hand that they loved … and could share with others. Particularly Christian themes would benefit I believe.
