From Generation to Generation

When I was 15 and was quite angry with my mother for not letting me go out, she wrote me this poem in reply to a poem I had written in wrath to her.
She wrote it on the spot.
The image below is of my kids and nephews and nieces

There’s a time and place for everything
from rendezvous to wedding rings,
a time to dance, a time to sing,
at winter’s end is time for spring.

Rosebuds take their time to bloom
and fledglings bide till wings are strong,
the nights are cold, but linger on
and time dictates the birth of dawn.

And nature’s children fancy free
dream their dreams impatiently
of joys to come and sights to see
and all the wondrous things to be.

But all too soon the children grow,
dreams fade away, where do they go
reality is different so
and dreams are things of long ago.

So hold on fast children dears
to the long and happy childhood years.
time enough to change the gears
and ride the tide of adult fears.

A lovely written piece, such a shame the second verse didn;t fit the rhyme scheme that was running so well through the rest, and yet take away from the rhyme and there are beautiful peictures painted is still poetic form! A delight to read…Anna-Marie.

Anna-Marie, thank you so much for your delightful comment and really pleased you like it.
