Artist's Description

For many of us artists when we hear people talking about Arles we immediately associate it with Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin having a terrible quarrel in the yellow house. When we visited Arles in September this year we were amazed by the well preserved Roman ruins. The Roman Ampthitheatre sits majestically on a hill above the city looking down benignly on its residents hurrying about their business.

It dates from 90 AD and once seated 20,000 but the Chariot Racing and bloody Gladitorial battlers have now been replaced by Plays, Concerts and bull fighting.
