About this piece: An unseen chef has just skewered this artist’s melon with a piece of pipe and placed it over a campfire. It appears that this chef is using an olive oil, garlic, and lime marinade. At approximately 20 minutes per pound, he’s in for about 3.5 hours of roasting. Mmmmmm.
No artists were harmed during the making of this painting. This artist does not support cannibalism except in extreme situations where people are very, very hungry. Since we cannot identify the consumer of the flesh, we cannot be certain that cannibalism has even occurred.

Love how the face is looking right out at us viewers, in wide eyed innocence, as if to ask, “why me?” Or something.

When I photographed myself, I was making various faces. For this one, I was actually thinking, “What’s the matter with you? (the viewer)”. For no other reason than to increase the absurdity factor, I stretched the middle 1/3 of the face out to at least double it’s actual length (as if my face needs more distortion!). When doing this, I asked my wife if I’d stretched it enough that people will be sure that I had stretched it! This may have affected your interpretation of wide-eyed innocence. Like you, I love to see others’ interpretations. My “descriptions” of my paintings are mostly for entertainment value. They usually raise questions, or make people laugh, rather than “explain” the true meaning of the painting. The true meaning is often dark, sad, or otherwise less palatable to customers than the glib description. Or, I don’t even understand the meaning myself. Viewers often help me build an understanding of the significance of my work (if there is any).
