Sad Chimes Rest Home

Sad Chimes Rest Home
They deserve more than ending up on the scrapheap after a life of creation and innovation. Be sympathetic to your old Apple in its time of need, send it to the Sad Chimes Rest Home for retired and redundant Macs. A place where the Mac Classic and the G3 iMac can reminisce about operating system developments.

I think I’ve got 3 or 4 in the loft added to the three I use during the day – a nice little family of them!

Very nice man, you really excucuted this well. I especially like the cracks within the tshirt, makes it look even better. Perhaps it’s best colour would be a dark one but it looks ok on white!
    Well done again

Cheers Tom, a little ageing and distressing can do wonders. At least that’s what I tell myself when I look in the mirror!

    Love the design on black!

  • rubyred replied

You could be right Rachel! I originally wanted to show it on the brown, but black could be the one.

Brilliant RR. I still have my old original iMac up and running. (Admittedly I don’t use it much…)

  • rubyred replied

i hope it’s original and not one of those weird patterned ones they did for a while. I’ve got a bondi blue first generation in the loft, still works.

Except for the Classic, I’ve got a few of each.
Nice work. Worth waiting for. How’s the hand?

  • rubyred replied

The Classic is a true classic. The hand is so much better, thanks for asking ;)

Got a new laptop a few months ago; the old sawtooth g4 sits unused under the desk. Keep thinking I will use it for another game of Halo multi-player…. it was a trooper, but even after memory upgrades finally got too slow. Easy to work with music on [before memory problems] and only a couple of repairs…. oooh and had a mac classic that I played Spectre on way too much. So glad laptop is hard to play games on—actually getting some work done now.

Oh and your design is great. Agreed Mr. Douce – the aged texturing works well. I tried some scrapy texture over my last design but it didn’t integrate well, so left it off. Whereas on rubyred’s it looks like it is part of the shirt. Good work!

  • rubyred replied

It’s strange how quickly you get used to the speed of a new machine and before long you’ve decided it’s too slow for you and an upgrade is needed. Compare what we worked on back in the day with the latest versions and the development is crazy.

I got the Sage one which I think was one of the first to play DVDs. It wouldn’t burn CDs (or DVDs) and it came with a proper-shaped mouse not one of those horrible circle ones.

  • rubyred replied

Yeah, those round mice should serve as a reminder to the Mac boffins that they don’t always get it right.

it is a very little known fact that quite a few of the retired processor units of the apple heritage are opting for a second career as art models … i have a fair few of them in residency:

Sounds like you’ve got yourself a classic there, they evolve so quickly but there’s quality in those genes ;)
