Child's Play

Child’s Play – Think Again
The AK-47 Russian automatic rifle designed in 1947, is amongst the most smuggled weapons of recent times, finding its way to conflicts in the Balkans, Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia.
In countries like Rwanda, Mozambique, Congo and Ethiopia this weapon was used by up to 100,000 children in armed conflict in 2005. Today it is estimated that there are between 200,000-300,000 children serving as soldiers for rebel groups and government forces in current armed conflicts.

seriously, where are these designs coming from, you’ve been churning them out solidly :)

  • rubyred replied

hehe! Overdosing on that creative juice. Just on a bit of a roll, some a bit hit and miss at the moment – but appreciate it when you comment. This one has a serious message behind it though. Keep coming back hikickry!

Haha. Good question, hikickry! I have a theory that there are actually 3 rubyreds. That would explain a few things . . . :)

Have you seen Blood Diamond ? F**king disturbing. Child soldiers upset me more than most other things wrong in this world of ours.

  • rubyred replied

I have seen it, I’m with you on this one.

    It’s a fantastic design….wish it wasn’t true.

  • rubyred replied

Seems so surreal that it couldn’t be true, but it’s a very widespread problem – shocking

Fantastic comment on the terrible issue of child soldiers. Maybe just slightly overcooked with the crayon…I don’t think it’s necessary, the concept would be completely obvious even without it. Great work!

  • rubyred replied

Thanks Frank. You are probably right, I’ve maybe overdone it – i was concerned it may have just looked like another gun shirt in the small preview pic. I should of had more conviction!

I’m from Washington DC originally, so I always saw more handgun trouble…but on a global level….really scary.

  • rubyred replied

You’re right. This could probably apply to most countries it seems with child violence. At the moment we have a real issue with kids killing kids in the streets of London.

  • gypsycaster

Cities are wierd places to be a kid. You become kind of invisible as no one wants to be responsible for what happens to you. Makes it seem really easy to do horrible things and get away with it. Sadly, London’s no different.
