I'm not really a car person but...

...this caught my eye, so I thought I’d share it. It’s a full size translucent Lexus built by well known Japanese architect Scu Fujimoto. It was displayed at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show. Constructed out of transparent acrylic boards that were sanded and polished. What’s so amazing about this see-through car is the attention to detail and the exacting specifications to which it was crafted. Just check out the engine, seats, instrument cluster, wheels, suspension and exhaust.

Anyway, like I said, I’m not a car nut but I can appreciate quality craftsmanship and this looks pretty sweet. I imagine it looks amazing lit by different coloured lights.

And if you don’t like plastic, how about this wooden sports car the ‘Splinter’. And this one actually goes!

Look at the detail in the wheels:

I’m off to find myself a huge rock to carve out my own car.

Ha, cool. It’d take a bit of polishing I reckon! I can’t be bothered to clean my car let alone trying to keep that clean!..... the wood one is pretty cool….

That top car is a work of art but I’m strangely captivated by the wooden sports car. There’s always something a little retro about wood grain. It’s a pity it’s not a Dodge Charger (Dukes of Hazard style) ...

Those are both really cool. All I can think though is that you wouldn’t want to crash the Splinter for fear of it living up to its name. Ow.
