There are up to 4.2 million CCTV cameras in Britain – about one for every 14 people…
London has 10,000 crime-fighting CCTV cameras which cost £200 million. But analysis of the publicly funded spy network, has cast doubt on its ability to help solve crime. In fact, four out of five of the boroughs with the most cameras have a record of solving crime that is below average.

    Thanks Ross. Yeah apparently the average UK citizen is ‘caught’ on camera about 300 times a day!? Add to that vehicle registration plate recognition cameras and travel card scanning it’s pretty scary.

    Excellent image and statement. The monied classes ensure that crime gets pushed into the back streets. Anyone who thinks that these cameras somehow make crime just vanish into thin air has read to much right-wing tabloid crap!
    (Blimey, where did that come from?! I’m usually so polite on RB! This issue definately touched a nerve!)

    Thanks, say what you feel Tambala – you can’t help wondering there is more to cctv cameras than just crime prevention, we’re being monitored for a reason.

    Was at Vic Station and got one of the cctv operators to help give me directions once. They can peek around corners and zoom those things with unnerving skill. Bit creepy.
