2-D Fruity

Like most of my work posted here this is a photograph of a two-dimensional painting. Contrary to all appearances, this is a flat trompe l’oeil painting. It is cut from a single sheet of 3/4 inch x 60×60 inch, Finnish birch plywood. It is then painted in acrylics and oils, including shadows. When properly lighted to allow real shadows to fall on the wall they match up with the painted shadows.

This particular painting is c. 57×58 inches in scale. To learn more please see my artist statement or visit my website at RobertTynes.com .
(Incidentally, this painting is in the collection of the Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte.)

Nice work, Robert. I hope you will consider submitting your best work to the brand new Southern United States Artists group (for photographers and artists). The group’s mission is to exhibit across the South. Once it builds up steam and I see what we have to work with, I will be promoting it to that end.

This is so outrageous. I love the scale of your work. And this reminds me a little of the artist Sarkisian (sp?). Kind of that abstract-illusionism. Your work rocks!

  • Robert Tynes replied

Thanks! Yes, I know Paul Sarkisian’s work. I first heard of him while living in New Mexico. I think he is from there. I was also included in a show with him in Charlotte, NC a few years back.

“I was also included in a show with him in Charlotte, NC a few years back.”

    How fitting. : >D

  • Robert Tynes replied

Really! Did it happen to be a show called “Double Take” in the Carillon Building in downtown Charlotte?

Hey Robert, Gosh I didn’t post this weird little tidbit. I wonder who in the world got on my account? I was never in a show with his work. This is really strange. Oh well. I’ve checked elsewhere on the Bubble and I don’t have any other comments like this. Maybe I’m just losing my mind. : >D Later, TPS

That IS weird! You might want to change your password and be sure to logout every time. So was there only one fraudulent post above that looks like it’s from you and mentions Charlotte? Or was the Sarkisian post not yours, too? Interesting! BTW, I checked out some of your sites. Looks like you’re a real renaissance man! Anway, Cheers!

It’s the only phantom post, Robert. So I don’t know if it’s a glitch or what. I leave it to the ghosts of the web. : >D
