A delicate astrantia flower begins to open in the garden.
This shot, from Spring 2009, was one of the first I took with my first macro lens, the 50mm Sigma. I wanted to have just the smallest part of detail in focus, the rest soft. Most people focus on the detail inside these pretty blooms but I was struck by the delicate patterns on the underside of the petals. In 2010 I auctioned two Redbubble matted prints of this image, and was delighted that they raised £305 for the Red Cross in Haiti.
Canon 400D and Sigma 50mm Macro.
