A montage of the history that underpins the city of Volterra in Tuscany Italy. Inspired by the photographic work of Paolo1955 The Fortress of Volterra
Medici Fortress of Volterra
The montage features an aspect of the old Roman theatre and the oldest gate which features Zues and the twins Castor and Pollux, which twin I have drawn is uncertain, for the head is severely weathered and the features are almost lost. The idea is built around the Rocca Nuova or the Medici Fortress of Lorenzo and his love of the classics and art, which seem to mirror Volterra’s history, complex and spectacular. The area is quite volcanic and seems to naturally generate dramatic skies.
This is a drawing stroke montage on Langton Rough watercolour paper, using inkjet transfers, collage, acrylic and watercolour.
