Italian Sketchbook is on Winsor & Newton 90lb/190gsm mould-made watercolour paper, using Cotman Watercolours and Berol water-soluble pens. My Italian Journal is still in a draft stage but will feature in my journal eventually.
paper, pen, watercolour, florence, vinci, siena, pisa, empoli, sansepolcro, pontorme, minalto
I especially love the blue on the left. Was the right sketched when the light was falling? (I think my reading glasses need to be changed. lol. Wish I could read your notes.)
My handwriting is never very good, it is an essay on Sansepolcro by Huxley. It was relevant so I added it in.We had some very in different weather on this trip more Uk than Italy.

Both of these pages are equally striking, but I am very drawn to the left. That cool blue makes me feel like I am in the deep shadows of dusk, but yet you have that lingering glow of warmth in the distance. It feel like it’s melting away…..wonderful.
I tried to prep pages, each day and went out and drew, some how the images seemed to find a natural relationship. The streets always have this sense of drama, strong shadows against brilliant light.
